- Maui always dreamt of fishing with his elder brothers.
- He recited an old karakia to himself and his brothers catch fish for them.
- Since that day Maui's people believed that Maui was the best fisherman ever.
Stories that I have heard about Maui:
- How he slowed the sun.
- How he pulled up islands.
- How he stole fire from Mahuika the goddess of fire.
Good Morning Te paea,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Toeumu and i am a student in room 3 at Wesley Primary School.
I like your three facts about Maui. Maybe next time you could add a picture to make it more interesting. This reminds me of when i watched Moana. Have you watched it? Good luck on your tasks over the summer/ school holidays.
Do you know any other stories that includes Maui?
Have an awesome day,
Toeumu
Kia ora Te Paea,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Megan and I am part of the Summer Learning Journey team who have been working with the students participating in the programme this summer. I am excited to see that you have been so active this week and looking forward to reading all your posts.
You have found some interesting facts about Maui to share with us. I really like how you acknowledged that Maui recited a karakia before releasing his fishing line. This is still a huge part of the Maori culture and a karakia is used to bless many situations. Can you think of a special moment where you might here a karakia being performed? My university class and I often recite a karakia in the morning before our classes.
Maui is a very well known myth who is recognised as a legend all around the world. You have remembered a number great stories especially "How he stole fire from Mahuika the goddess of fire". This is a story I have not heard before so I better do my research. Have you heard the story "How Maui found his mother"?
Thank you for sharing an awesome post. Keep up the awesome work.
Have a fantastic day,
Megan :)
